FontStruct
FontStruct is my vote for the best free design tool this year. I was blown away by this web application. FontStruct is an online tool, where you can basically design your own fonts - for free. You go to the site, create an account and you’re set. From there, you can launch the FontStructor and start designing. The FontStructor was built so that anyone, without any type design or technical experience, can get started right away. However if you’re a design professional, do not ignore this tool. Building fonts is a breeze, and you’d be amazed how well they turn out if you put a bit of time into them.
This is not the only great thing about FontStruct. Once you’ve finished building your font, you can save it and download it for use on your computer - completely free! You’re own typeface. Also, you can upload it to the FonStruct Gallery, where hundreds of other users have uploaded their fonts. You can share and download any one of the typefaces yet again for free.

So you should, its a great tool. The fact that this sort of thing is even possible is amazing - let alone it being on the internet, and for free. Isn’t it wonderful?
Wow Chris, I just signed up to this and had a go. It’s very impressive. I was surpirsed how easily I could make a new font, and use it. I totally agree that everyone should have a go using this program. Thanks!
